Hogarthian Technical Diver 2

tech2

The Hogarthian Technical Diver 2 course both reviews and refines skills learned in Hogarthian Technical Diver 1, but continues to challenge the student by introducing new failures and procedures during the descent, diving, and decompression phases of technical diving. This robust course extends the divers depth capability by introducing the use of multiple stages as well as the use of Trimix. The curriculum is designed to transform single stage technical divers into multi stage technical divers, while introducing them to the demanding world that lies below 45m and beyond. Course participants will gain experience working with a variety of standard gas mixtures for use as bottom mix and multiple decompression gases. This information culminates in a true understanding of “best gas” selection in the 3 to 75 meters range.
Long-range dives can be very demanding, greatly exceeding no-decompression limits. As a result gas management, oxygen management and decompression obligation all become critical aspects to dive planning. Topics addressed in this course will build upon previously learned skills with an emphasis on staging, dive planning, accelerated decompression and technical equipment configurations.

Prerequisites
1. Must meet Course Prerequisites
2. Minimum age of 18
3. All participants must be able to swim at least 300 meters
4. All participants must be able to swim a distance of at least 20 m on a breath hold
5. Must have a minimum of 100 logged dives, with at least 30 dives on double tanks/cylinders; 30 of these should have utilized a single stage and be deeper then 27 m.
6. Must have a minimum of 25 logged dives beyond Hogarthian Technical Diver 1 certification

Duration
The class is structured around a minimum 14 lessons and 12 dives with minimum of 320 minutes bottom time.

Course Content
The Hogarthian Technical Dive 2 is designed to instil divers with a working knowledge of extended range diving; this includes history, physics, physiology, tables and logistics. Special emphasis will be placed on extended exposures and their associated consideration.

Program Limits
1. All dives are to maintain a working PO2 of no greater than 1.4 and a resting PO2 of 1.6 or less
2. No dives are to exceed an equivalent narcotic depth of 30 m
3. Maximum depth 60m

Certification level
Technical Diver, Normoxic Trimix Diver

Academic Topics
1. Limits of training
2. Course completion requirements
3. Review of decompression, gas utilization and risk, diving physiology
4. Accelerated, omitted, and general decompression strategies
5. Dive logistics and planning

Drills & Topics

1. Spool, reel, and guideline use
2. Dive team order and protocols
3. Gas switching procedures and protocols
4. Bottom, stage, and decompression bottle use

Equipment Requirements

Each student should have and be familiar with all of the following required equipments:

1. Tanks/Cylinders: Students are required to use dual tanks/cylinders connected with a dual outlet isolator manifold, which allows for the use of two first stage regulators.
2. Decompression tank/cylinder
3. Regulators: Two first-stages, each supplying a single second-stage. One of the second stages must be on a 2 meters hose. One of the first stages must supply a pressure gauge.
4. Regulators for Decompression tanks and stages
5. Buoyancy Compensators: Back-mounted wings, mated with a harness and a back plate.
6. Wrist mounted compass
7. Two time keeping devices
8. At least one depth-measuring device
9. Decompression tables
10. Mask and fins (fins must be of the non-split variety)
11. At least one cutting device
12. Underwater slate or Wet Notes
13. One reel/spool, with 30 meters of line per diver
14. One primary reel per team, with a minimum of 120 meters of line
15. Primary light and two back-up lights
16. At least one surface marker buoy per diver
17. Exposure suit appropriate for the duration of exposure
